Honors Classes
ENGLISH, SCIENCE, and SOCIAL STUDIES,

Honors classes in English, Science, and Social Studies is an option for seventh and eighth grade students. Honors classes are designed for students who need additional challenge in English, Science and Social Studies. The content of the Honors classes will be similar to the grade level classes; however, the class will move at a faster pace, go into greater depth, and require a greater degree of independence on the part of the student. These courses are not intended to assign MORE homework, but homework matched to a high ability students' instructional level. The Honors classes are not accelerated high school classes taught at the middle school; therefore, a student will NOT earn high school credit or a high school grade.

Registration forms will be handed out in Target sometime in March to give students the opportunity to sign up for one, two, or all of these classes. The form will also allow students to rank the classes in order of interest. Students will be notified if they are in an Honors class on schedule pick up day in August.

Please keep in mind your students after school commitments. Middle school is a time of physical, intellectual, emotional and social change. While it is important for students to be challenged academically so that he/she develops the necessary skills and confidence to be successful in a high school honors course, we also recognize that middle school students need time to explore outside interests and opportunities that will enable them to choose a future career and avocation. In scheduling Honors classes, our goal is to balance challenging coursework with time to develop individual strengths and interests. Therefore, choosing one Honors class may be the best option.

We will do our best to honor your child's needs. Scheduling conflicts may occur, but we will make every attempt to honor your request by enrolling your child in at least one Honors class.

6th grade language arts enrichment will be a literature group that will meet during 2nd and 3rd quarter.
